Tanzania Visa – Information and Procedure

General Information

Starting from May 2007 due to the application of electronic visa system, no express visa can be issued.

For all types of visa application, four (4) working days are required.

Working Hours
Visa section is open from 09.00am to 11.00am Monday to Friday.

All visitors wishing to enter the United Republic of Tanzania must obtain an appropriate Visa, prior to travelling to Tanzania except from those countries having bilateral visa exemption agreement with Tanzania, and from countries where there is no Tanzania Embassy nor can they easily obtain such visa from the nearest Tanzanian Embassy. In the latter case, visitors can proceed to Tanzania and obtain a Visa at the point of entry.

Please Note that:
It takes 4 (four) working days to process ordinary visa application logged in person at the Embassy.


All supporting documents must be submitted at the Embassy when applying for Visa.

For all Visas that will expire before being used; a fresh application has to be made, fulfilling all previous conditions without exception and once a visa is issued, the fee is non refundable.

Visa fee for each person is RMB 415.

Visa Requirements

The Embassy issues three types of Visa:

• Business Visa
• Visitor’s Visa
• Tourist Visa

Requirements
You must submit the following document when applying for Visa

1. Requirements for Business Visa application

2. Requirements for Visitor’s Visa application

• Invitation letter from Tanzania
• Inviter’s residence permit (non-Tanzanian) or copy of Passport from Tanzanian Inviter
• Copy of Family Certificate or Marriage Certificate (refer to couple visit)
• Copy of Family Relations Certificate (refer to family member)
• Reservation for non-refundable return air ticket
• Vacation approval from employer
• Dully filled application form (1 copies)
• Two (2) color full face photos of 2 inches

3. Requirements for Tourist? Visa application

Applications should be submitted by an authorized Chinese Travel Agent or Tour Operator based in Tanzania (You may contact the Embassy for details)

• Note from Travel Agent or Tour Operator to the Embassy (indicating date of travel, name, Passport No.)
• Copy of cooperation contract from Tanzanian local travel agent or tour operator
• Travel and tour itineraries and hotel reservations
• Reservation of Non-refundable return air ticket
• Dully filled application form (1 copy)
• Two (2) color full face photos of 2 inches
• Chinese Travel Agent to submit a copy of license and a certification of organizing abroad tourist groups
• If organized through Tanzanian local tour agent: presenting the following document (invitation letter/confirmation letter, itinerary, hotel reservation, return ticket reservation, resident permit for foreigners residing in China, vacation approval from Employer).

4. Requirements for a Referral Visa (Since September 2007, all referral visa applications should be applied and processed directly by Immigration Office in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Embassy no longer accepts any application for referral visas.

For the applicants from the following countries, referral visa is required:

Pakistan, Sri-Lanka, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria and other West African countries, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Turkey and all refugees and stateless persons.

Requirements

• A letter stating your purpose of visit to Tanzania
• Copy of Passport
• Any other document supporting your visit to Tanzania
• Approval from Tanzania Immigration Office (takes about one to three months for verification) on the documents submitted.

5. Visa Exceptions

Chinese citizens holding Diplomatic Passports or Service Passport for Public Affairs do not need to apply for visa for a visit of no longer than 180 days in accordance with the Visa Exemption Agreement between Tanzania and China.

Countries that Must Obtain Visa/ Who Should Apply

If you are a national of one of the countries or territorial entities below or if you are stateless or hold a non-national travel document or passport issued by an authority not recognized by the United Republic of Tanzania, you must obtain a valid visa on each occasion that you enter Tanzania, unless you belong to a category of people stipulated in a bilateral visa exemption agreement with Tanzania.

Any non-exempted citizen travelling on a passport of any of the following Countries MUST obtain visa for entering Tanzania:
